Practical advice for choosing the appropriate painting hoses

Depending on the length of the hose that is necessary to be used in the painting hall, one is supposed to choose the appropriate diameter of it, so that the painting operation can be conducted at the maximum pressure needed for obtaining quality results in the planned timeframe.

The bigger the diameter of the hose, the higher will be the pressure at the gun. When the diameter decreases and the length of the hose increases, the pressure at the gun will be lower, affecting the final results of the operation.

When connecting 2 hoses, the one with the bigger diameter is supposed to be fitted at the pump and the other one, with smaller diameter should be connected to the gun. This way a better working pressure will be obtained.

General recommendations:

Hoses with 3/16 (4.8 mm) diameters are ideal for low pressure paint applications.

Hoses with ¼ (6.4 mm) diameters are the most accessible ones on the market and can be used for any kind of paint application.

Hoses with 3/8 (9.5 mm) diameters bring the best when directly connected to the gun. With their help one can apply high-density paints. They can be successfully used when needing long hoses, as there is a smaller risk of loosing working pressure.
