13.08.2019
The Metallisation team was thrilled to cooperate with Rolls Royce for developing the robots with flexible and modular arm that revolutionized how the maintenance of engines will soon work.
The British company announced the launch of FLARE - the new snake robot. They explained during video presentation how the high tech equipment works.
A series of other organizations such as the University in Nottingham and the Institute for Aerospace Technologies joined the partnership between Metallisation and Rolls Royce. The project was co-financed by The British Agency for Innovations, and it will be a reference for how the maintenance will work.
Ben Hawkins, the director of the research and development division at Metallisation, declared that FLARE was an outstanding opportunity and a fantastic cooperation with Rolls Royce for generating an innovative solution able to solve an economic problem. The project would not have been possible without the financial support received from Innovate UK.
The snake robots are supposed to get into the engine like an endoscope and to repair the broken elements. Among the benefits of the technology, one could mention the increased speed in case of inspection works. Another main advantage is the elimination of the necessity to disassemble the engine for repair or maintenance works.
Richard Goodhead - Senior VP Marketing at Rolls Royce declared that this particular development in robotics is a relevant example of how the Intelligent Engine will be created soon.
